The University of Alberta Philippine Studies Program aims to introduce the Philippine Studies Lecture Program (PSLP) at the university. It has a diverse range of topics related to the Philippines, including its national politics, economy, history, culture, language, and foreign policy. Moreover, the program fosters academic engagement and strengthens diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Canada.
On 8 October 2024, the University of Alberta hosted a lecture event called, "Navigating Multilingual Realities: The Language Dynamics and Policy in the Philippines" by University of the Philippines - Diliman Dr. Jayson D. Petras.
The lecture navigated on the complex linguistic reality shaped by national policies and local practices, and explored the historical and contemporary evolution of language policies within the Philippines, with the ongoing challenges of balancing the use of Filipino and local languages against the dominance of English. In this context, the 1989 Language Policy of the University of the Philippines was discussed.

Inaugural Lecture of the Philippine Studies Lectureship Series: Philippines - Canada Bilateral Relations (26 September 2023)
University of Alberta is a public research university in Edmonton, Canada, founded in 1906/1908 by Premier Alexander Cameron Rutherford and Henry Marshall Tory, its inaugural president.
