26 August 2025 | Deed of Donation signed between the Philippine Consulate General in Milan and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice
Program Coordinators | Former Consul General Jim Tito B. San Agustin and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice Director Laura De Giorgi
This partnership, introduces the course "Introduction to Philippine Languages and Culture" within the university's Department of Asian and North African Studies. The initiative marks Italy’s entry into a growing global network of institutions hosting dedicated Philippine academic programs.
The program aims to foster cross-cultural understanding and robust academic exchange. By integrating Philippine history, politics, and heritage into the curriculum of one of the world's leading humanities institutions, the agreement strengthens bilateral cultural ties and addresses the increasing interest in Philippine studies among international students.
Founded in 1868 as Italy's first business school, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice was established by a group of intellectuals led by Luigi Luzzatti to train tradesmen and economics teachers. From its inception, the institution distinguished itself by requiring the study of both Western and Eastern languages, a multidisciplinary approach that laid the groundwork for its future as a premier center for international studies.
Over the following century, the school evolved from a specialized commercial institute into a comprehensive governmental university. It achieved several milestones, including the founding of Italy's first Faculty of Foreign Languages in 1954 and its official transition to a fully-fledged university in 1968. By 1970, the addition of the Humanities and Sciences faculties solidified its status as a diverse and leading public research institution.
