OCD produced From the Philippines to the World: A Global Catalogue of Philippine Studies Programs Abroad Promoting Academic Excellence and Cultural Diplomacy, the first comprehensive reference on the Philippine Studies Program. The publication brings together essential information on 24 universities across Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania, providing an overview of the institutions, academic frameworks, scholars, and cultural partners involved in advancing Philippine-focused scholarship.
The catalogue reflects the DFA’s commitment to cultural diplomacy as a core element of foreign policy, promoting academic exchange, mutual understanding, and broader appreciation of the Filipino experience. It highlights how universities abroad are integrating Philippine history, society, language, and culture into their teaching and research agendas.
To mark its release, the DFA-OCD and the Office of Senator Loren Legarda held a formal launch on 25 June 2025 at the Centro de Turismo in Intramuros. Leaders from the diplomatic, academic, and cultural sectors attended the event, which highlighted the publication’s role in strengthening the international presence of Philippine Studies. Former Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo and Senator Loren Legarda both noted the continued growth of the program and emphasized its importance in promoting Philippine history, culture, and scholarship worldwide.
A flipbook version of the catalogue has been made available to ensure wider access for FSPs, partner universities, cultural agencies, and researchers. It serves as a ready reference for institutions exploring collaborations, students seeking opportunities for study or research, and policymakers working to expand the Philippines’ academic footprint overseas.

For 2025, the Department of Foreign Affairs fully funded the Philippine Studies Program through its 2025 GAA, supporting thirteen (13) universities pending the execution of their respective Deeds of Donation (DoD).
As of 14 November 2025, eleven (11) of these universities have completed the signing of their Donation Agreements with their partner institutions. The remaining two are in the final stages: the University of California, Berkeley’s Center for Southeast Asia Studies (CSEAS) is already queued for signing of the DoD, while the draft DoD for the University of Barcelona is currently under review by OTLA.
The inaugural Diálogo: Philippine Studies Goes Global Conference was held on 27–29 November 2024 at the University of the Philippines Asian Center, in partnership with the DFA-OCD. The event brought together scholars, researchers, cultural practitioners, government officials, students, and representatives from diplomatic missions who are actively contributing to the growth of Philippine Studies worldwide. It served as a global platform for dialogue and collaboration on key themes related to Philippine history, culture, governance, society, and regional and global engagement.
Through plenary sessions, panel presentations, workshops, and cultural activities, the conference encouraged partner institutions to share new research, exchange methodologies, and identify emerging areas for scholarly exploration. It also strengthened the network of universities under the Philippine Studies Program by opening spaces for joint research projects, student and faculty exchanges, visiting lectureships, and future co-publications.
Diálogo marked an important step in expanding the international profile of Philippine Studies and aligning academic initiatives with the DFA’s cultural diplomacy priorities. It is envisioned to be convened every other year by the DFA-OCD and its academic partners, ensuring sustained momentum for global collaboration and long-term investment in Philippine Studies.
